From July 1, 2018, the German truck toll applies to all vehicles from 7.5 tonnes and is also to be calculated on all federal highways. The corresponding on-board unit is now available for installation.

According to Toll Collect, around 140,000 vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes will be equipped with a new on-board unit (OBU) for the upcoming expansion of the truck toll. The device calculates the tolls on all highways and federal highways and shows in the future only that the truck is traveling in Germany (DE), how many axes he has and in what weight class he is traveling. The display of the toll sections is no longer required.
The OBU can also process the Austrian billing system Toll2Go and displays with AT when the truck is traveling in Austria. There are vehicles from 3.5 tons subject to a toll. Toll Collect recommends that holders of 7.5 tons or more should check at an early stage whether it makes sense to install an OBU. The toll operator provides the device free of charge, the costs for installation at a Toll Collect service partner must be borne by the vehicle operator.
New terminalsToll Collect is currently converting 1100 toll terminals for manual online booking, which can also be done via the laptop. The old terminals are shut down and scrapped, the previous Internet booking process is discontinued and converted to the new online booking. To pay at the new terminals a paysafecard is needed.
Furthermore, Toll Collect wants to set up 800 new test columns on federal roads by 1 July, which check the toll payment when passing the lorries. The operator emphasizes that the blue and green painted pillars should be clearly distinguished from flash columns. Where these columns are set up is decided by the Federal Office for Freight Traffic.
