Toshiba denies production stop due to Ransomware attack

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 | bitcoin updates

Toshiba, according to a media report, had to close all flash factories in Japan due to a Ransomware attack in the short term. Toshiba has already denied.

Three to six weeks, the flash production in the Japanese factories of Toshiba have paused, according to a report by Digitimes. A Ransomware attack had affected the internal network and the resulting loss of production amounted to almost 100,000 wafers.
Toshiba holds a world market share of around 17.5 percent. Since production partner WD would also be affected by such a failure, the total output of flash memories this year would decrease by a few percent.
No evidence of storage shortageToshiba has, however, already denied such a loss of production compared to The Register. The analysts of DRAMeXchange should also have found no evidence of a storage deficit.
NAND-Flash is currently scarce, mainly due to the conversion of the production lines to 3D-NAND; the prices have risen compared to the previous year. A production loss of several weeks would further exacerbate the situation.
