The hurricane "Irma" has reached the US state of Florida and caused major damage – the extent is still unclear. The storm was flooding on both shores of the peninsula state. More than 5.7 million households, half of all households in the state, are without electricity, as the disaster relief on Monday in Tallahassee communicated. The warnings of storm floods persisted on Monday despite the diminishing winds. Florida's governor Rick Scott warned citizens to be vigilant: "Stay in. Stay safe," he wrote in the Twitter short news service. "Even 15 centimeters of water that moves can get you carried away." According to the newspaper "Miami Herald" the water in the streets of Miami was already on the Sunday evening (local time) about one meter high. Brickell's banking district was also affected. In numerous pictures and videos it was seen that violent storms pushed the water into the city and made great roads to tearing rivers.
Also on the Gulf Coast the mirror of the ocean before Naples rose within just 90 minutes by more than two meters. US President Donald Trump announced he wanted to travel to Florida as soon as possible to get a picture of the damage. More than 12,000 flights to and from Florida have been canceled. American media reported attacks from several cities on the east coast of the US state, many of the perpetrators were armed. In the city of Weston, a 17-year-old thief was shot by a security officer according to various local media. Wind speeds of up to 155 kilometers per hour were measured at the border to the eye of the cyclone, according to the US Hurricane Center. The eye moves at a slow pace northwards and is expected to travel between the two major cities of Tampa and Orlando, as reported by the ABC radio. During Sunday, six tornadoes developed on the East coast of Florida alone, as reported by the National Weather Service. Further hurricanes would have to be expected. In Miami at least two large building cranes collapsed in the storm, reported the "Miami Herald". As reported by ABC, three people died in traffic accidents caused by the weather. Photos from the Gulf Coast showed cars that had fallen. On Sunday afternoon (local time), Irma was downgraded from the second highest category 4 to category 3 and then to category 2, but the storm lost nothing in terms of danger.Million people affected

"Irma" is wider than the Florida peninsula. Thus the storm pushed the water on the west side from the Gulf coast. Pictures showed empty port basins; elsewhere the water was meters away from the beach promenade. The meteorologists warned, however, that the water would come in a kind of swinging movement back to the west coast. From Fort Myers to Tampa, the remaining people were preparing for the worst and up to 4.5 meters high storm floods. In Florida, more than 6.5 million people had previously been asked to leave their homes and get away before the storm in safety. This corresponds to about 30 percent of the population of the federal state – it was one of the largest evacuation campaigns in the history of the USA. More than 100,000 people were waiting for emergency shelters. For some areas in southern Georgia, hurricane warnings were applied. In Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, as a precaution, mobilized the National Guard. Even more than 600 kilometers from the eye of the storm, "Irma" still provides for tropical storm-like winds, the Hurricane warning center said. "Irma" has been holding the region for days. On his travel through the Caribbean, the storm had cost more than 20 people, according to unofficial estimates, some areas are considered uninhabitable. There were serious damage on the islands of Barbuda, Saint-Martin, Saint-Bartélémy and the Virgin Islands. (AFP, dpa) The day-to-day level cooperates with the survey institute Civey.
