The US has requested a special session of the UN Security Council because of the situation in Iran. The UN delegation of the Americans announced on Thursday that the meeting should begin on Friday afternoon (21.00 CET). Topic is "the current development in Iran". Officially, the meeting has not been scheduled yet. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov spoke of a "harmful and destructive" proposal. "In our opinion, the United Nations Security Council plays no role in this issue." Iran's internal affairs and the UN body have nothing to do with each other. Russia and the US have a veto right in the UN Security Council to block decisions. New US sanctions against IranIn the context of Iran's missile program, the US government also put five companies based in the Islamic Republic on a sanction list on Thursday. These are four companies and a research center of the Shahid Bakeri Industrial Group, said Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin on Thursday. They are involved in the ballistic missile program, which is "more important to the Iranian regime than the economic well-being of the Iranian people. The sanctions stipulate that the assets of those affected in the US are frozen. Besides, Americans are not allowed to do business with them. (Reuters)
