Peter von Becker presents his new novel

Friday, October 6th, 2017 | bitcoin updates

There are two different breathing techniques, says Peter von Becker: To write a novel you need the long breath, for writing journalistic articles rather the short, fast. For this reason, the former feuilleton chief and current cultural author of the Tagesspiegel also tasted for more than two years until his new novel "Céleste" was finished: to find the necessary leisure to switch to the other breathing or thinking technique, to get into the right mood, to make daydreams and to invent figures – all this is a challenge in the day – to – day business. A century – old artist is at the center Now, however, is the time: "Céleste" has appeared in mare Verlag, a novel of five stories closely interwoven with each other Center is a highly unusual woman: the 99-year-old artist Céleste Salvatori, who fought during the Second World War in the French Resistance and whose lives are a deadly secret. How this story is connected with the kidnapping of the writer Jonas Hecker or the fateful year of the young Berlin photographer Marienbach reveals itself to the reader only in the course of the surprising book. The author Peter Schneider praised the work as "virtuosically composed prose" and sees Becker as "modern descendant of the Romanticism". He will present his book at the Tagesspiegel-Salon, October 17, in conversation with editor-in-chief Stephan-Andreas Casdorff, from Becker, former co-editor of the magazine "Theater heute", author of scripts, essays, poems and the novel "Die andere Zeit". Islands have "something magical" The novel plays mainly in islands such as Sylt, Corsica, the Channel Island of Guernsey, Capri and Japan. Becker has traveled to Tokyo and Kyoto to describe the scenes that play there. Islands have "something magical," he says. And are not they also places where you are cut off from mainland habits, open up new worlds? Peter von Becker has put the novel into the years 2012/2013, a time that he feels as a "refuge": "In these years, for example, refugees were much less talked about, but one felt that the world was basic changed like a kind of background noise. "He describes a time turn – but far beyond the actual day. "I do not like authors to make political events superficial. This is usually unpoetic, "he says. There are two worlds, two breathing techniques, literature and journalism. Newspaper in the salon with Peter von Becker on October 17, 7 pm.
