Job opportunities in US technology companies: minorities are disadvantaged

             Even in the hippy technology companies of the Bay Area there is no equality of opportunity: members of minorities are much more difficult than whites to get into leadership positions.
            

        

        Although the US technology companies are multi-cultural, the reality is different: The non-profit organization Ascend has evaluated a database of the USEqual Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and found that minorities in the US continue to have bad cards, when it comes to filling management positions.
The research, titled "The Illusion of Asian Success", covers the years 2007 to 2015 and examines the employment situation at technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ascent is a research institution, which is mainly concerned with the professional prospects of workers with an Asian background.
Women are catching up Although the latter, in 2015, were the majority in the lower segment of the workforce, white women and men would have a double chance of becoming a leader. In addition, almost three times as many of them would work in management. For black employees as well as their counterparts with Latin American roots, the prospects for a leading position were even lower. On the other hand, white women had made a big leap forward: in 2007 they were still 12 percent below the average, while in 2015 they were already 17 percent higher. All women and men belonging to a minority remained below the Ascend Equality Index during the observation period.
