Apple has released updates for iPhones, iPads and Macs on Monday evening to prevent crashes and endless loops by receiving a specific string. But there is more in the updates.

Since latest Thursday, a bug under iOS is known, with which Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch can be crashed with only one particular string or at worst in an infinite loop. Crashes were also provoked under macOS High Sierra. The "text bomb" was able to reach the device via iMessage, for example, and was also sent via social networks, which are now filtering them. Now Apple has responded by itself and delivers with iOS 11.2.6 and the macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 Supplemental Update updates for its devices, which should fix the error.

          Example of the bad string.

Indo-Aryan fonts affected The download on an iPhone X just over 40 MB fixed a bug in which "certain character sequences" could cause apps to crash, writes Apple in the release notes.
Whether all variants of the recent text bomb, which can be triggered with Indo-Aryan writings such as Telugu, Bengali and Devanagari, have been resolved remains unclear. Apple had already announced an interim iOS update on Thursday to fix the issue – in the current pre-release version of iOS 11.3, which will probably not be ready until March, the fix is already included.
Additional Troubleshooting in iOS 11.2.6 In addition to the text bomb fix, iOS 11.2.6 also includes at least one more fix. For example, apps sometimes had problems connecting to external devices-which was exactly what Apple did not communicate. However, it is known that the previous version iOS 11.2.5 had connection problems with Ford entertainment systems.
Updates also for Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TVThe macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 Supplemental Update fixes the problem with the string as well. Just as on iOS, processing a "maliciously crafted string" could result in heap corruption in the API Core Text, which plays a central role in Apple's processing and rendering of text.
The bug was also fixed in tvOS 11.2.6 and watchOS 4.2.3, which are also available for download. According to Apple, Apple is now implementing "improved input validation" to defuse the text bomb in all its systems.
