After installing the latest iPhone update, USB and Bluetooth connections with Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system are no longer running smoothly. iOS 11.3 is supposed to clear the problem out.

Ford drivers can no longer properly use their iPhone in their car after upgrading to iOS 11.2.5: Music playback on Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system will fail, via the USB connection as well as streaming via Bluetooth, as readers report and among others is being discussed by US users in Apple's forum. The music playback via Bluetooth is only possible again when the iPhone is disconnected from the USB connection to the vehicle, then there is no charging of the battery more.
Music Issues and AppLink AppsAs Ford has told US retailers, the problem affects both audio playback over USB and the use of AppLink apps. Repairs should therefore not be carried out, the vehicle manufacturer emphasizes there – Apple knows the problem and will eliminate it with an upcoming update. The list includes, among others, Ford Focus and Mustang affected – from model year 2016.
Even to German dealers seems to have gone a similar memo, as reported in auto-forums, where it says that the situation can be solved either "by replacing the affected Ford component or by updating our system" – Apple must make the mistake dispel.
CarPlay unaffectedThe USB connectivity issues seem to affect other features, including obtaining live traffic information for the Ford navigation system. The CarPlay support, if any, continues to work as usual, users from the US report.
The connection with Sync 3 works as usual, as soon as iPhone has iOS 11.3 installed, users note in Apple's discussion forum. The upcoming system update is so far only as beta, which is now also publicly available. iOS 11.3 is scheduled to be released in the spring.
