Intel introduces numerous workstation processors of the new Xeon W series. They contain four to 18 cores, support ECC memory and up to 512 GB of RAM.

Intel has introduced a new generation of workstation processors called Xeon-W. According to Intel, it is intended for workstation applications such as graphics design or the development and analysis of AI programs, but also prepared for professional VR development. The 14 nm processors are based on the Skylake X architecture and are similar to the Core X processors presented in July, but they support ECC RAM and require a motherboard with C422 instead of X299 chipset. Letzerer is practically identical except for the Intel Management Engine 11.10.

18 cores, 140 watts, up to 512 gigabytes of memory
The Xeon-W series consists of ten processors. The top model Xeon W-2195 contains 18 cores, handles 36 threads and provides a total of 24.75 MBytes of cache. It runs at a base clock frequency of 2.3 GHz and can accelerate up to 4.3 GHz in turbo mode – but this peak value applies only to single-threaded load operation on a single core. Its four memory channels support up to 512 GB of memory – DDR4 1600 to 2666 – with a transfer rate of up to 85 GB / s. In addition, there are 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes, two AVX 512 FMA units, and support for current virtualization techniques. The thermal design power of the Xeon W-2195 gives Intel with 140 watts.
The Xeon W-2175 (TDP: 140 W), the Xeon W-2155 (price: 1440 US dollars plus tax), the Xeon W-2145 (1113 US The Xeon W-2135 and 2133 (835/617 US dollars), the Xeon W-2125 and 2123 (444/294 US dollars), as well as two quadruplets without hyper-threading, the Xeon W-2102 and Xeon W-2104. The quadruplets are specified with a TDP of 120 watts, the remaining processors with 140 watts. Prices for the two high-end processors 2175 and 2195, Intel has not yet announced.
HP and Dell dominate workstation market
According to Jon Peddie Research, the global workstation market grew by around 20 percent in the second quarter compared to the same quarter last year. According to Peddie, a total of 1.23 million systems have been delivered. HP leads the market with a share of 38 percent, followed by Dell (35 percent) and Lenovo (14 percent).
