Intel plans to roll up its 26-year-old "Intel inside" marketing program, which could impact the PC market and related advertising.
The co-marketing program "Intel inside" has introduced the name of the processor manufacturer and its brands. Intel is now planning changes to the Intel Inside program, as the company has confirmed to CRN. According to anonymous sources of CRN, it is mainly about a significant reduction in advertising by up to 60 percent. That in turn could significantly impact the PC market and product advertising.
The background to the expected cuts is cost pressure: Intel CEO Brian Krzanich is expanding the Group on several levels. Many projects (including the maker boards) have already been stopped, including processor types such as the Xeon Phi canceled. On the other hand, the company is also investing in new projects such as the development of its own GPU.
As part of the Intel Inside Program (IIP) get companies that install a minimum amount of certain Intel processors – Atom, Core, Xeon – and promote it, including cost subsidies and discounts. For this reason too, one often sees Intel logos in the million-fold advertising leaflets of large "e-tailers" such as Mediamarkt and Saturn.
