After a first test at Frankfurt Airport, R + V Versicherung plans to test self-driving buses on a company premises in central Hesse from December onwards. On a total of five working days, they should complement the conventional factory traffic at Pharmaserv in Marburg, as the company Wiesbaden announced. The insurer hopes to gain insights for the future use of autonomous vehicles on public roads. "The first test run at the airport impressively showed us the great potential of automated vehicles," said Marcel Heinz of the R + V Innovation Lab. The Philipps University of Marburg and the Technical University of Central Hesse (THM) are scientifically supporting the trial operation, which begins on 4 December , For the first time in Germany, two of the electric buses were in use at Frankfurt Airport at the end of October. For two weeks they commuted between cars, aircraft tugs, rescue services and cargo and baggage transports on a 1.5 kilometer long track. Accidents did not happen.
