GitHub Launches Discussion Area for Teams

With Team Discussions, project teams get a general discussion platform beyond individual issues and pull requests.

The version management service GitHub has again introduced a small innovation that should encourage team collaboration. Team Discussions are a common platform for sharing within teams. GitHub wants to give the discussions a special place, which until now has often been used in the debates on pull requests or issues, even though they are not thematically relevant, such as the planning of joint activities.
To start a new discussion or to participate in an existing one, developers must be logged in. You will then find the newly launched "Your Team" section within the right sidebar. By default, not only members of a team, but employees throughout the organization can read all the discussion content. By contrast, contributions declared as private are only visible in the team.
Nested Structure and Watch ListsFor membership of teams, the nested structure introduced in June applies to hierarchies. A watch function helps to track individual conversations. Like social networks, developers can stop them from getting messages unless they are directly involved in a discussion or someone mentions them in a post.

Using the watch button, developers determine when they receive notifications.

Further details can be found on the GitHub blog. Team Discussions are currently available on GitHub.com. In the near future they will also be included in GitHub Enterprise as well as the GitHub API v3 and v4.
