A Belgian court ruled that Facebook must stop monitoring internet users outside the social network and erase the data already collected.

Facebook has been obliged by a Belgian court in the first instance to stop monitoring the web page traffic of users outside the social network and to delete the data collected so far. This applies to all Belgian Internet users, even those who do not have a Facebook account. A breach threatens a penalty of 250,000 euros per day.
As a rationale, the court in Brussels stated that Facebook does not adequately inform its customers about the extensive collection of cookies and invisible pixels on third-party websites. In addition, according to Bloomberg, the social network does not indicate what happens to the information and how long it will be stored.

Data protection offense in GermanyAlso in Germany Facebook stands for data protection offense in court. According to a judgment of the district court Berlin of mid-January, not yet valid, Facebook violates valid consumer right, because prescriptions are unlawful and users must use their real name.
Since 2016, the Bundeskartellamt has also been examining potential data protection breaches of the social network in an administrative procedure. In a preliminary assessment in December 2017, the Cartel Office came to the conclusion that Facebook unlimited collected any kind of user data from third-party sources and merges with the Facebook account. Accordingly, the US company occupies a dominant position in Germany.
