Elastic takes over the search service provider Swiftype

Friday, November 10th, 2017 | bitcoin updates

The Startup Swiftype was previously user of Elasticsearch and Elastic Stack. In the future, Elastic intends to integrate Swiftype's site and enterprise search products into its own portfolio.

With the search service Site Search, which is based on the Lucene-based search system Elasticsearch, designed as Software as a Service (SaaS), the startup Swiftype has been able to win more than 800 customers worldwide since 2012. Elastic, behind Elasticsearch and Elastic Stack, announces the acquisition of Swiftype to position itself as an alternative to Google.
Swiftype Site Search can be tailored to the search needs of user companies. Developers have access to a JSON-based REST API. For cross-domain queries, Swiftype additionally provides a JSONP API as a read-only version. As an alternative to access via HTTP, the company also offers the use of the search engine in conjunction with client libraries – including Ruby, Python, Java or PHP. More details can be found in the Swiftype documentation. For users of Google Site Search (GSS) Swiftype offers a migration path.
Artificial intelligence as search helpIn this year, the startup introduced a variant of the search service, the Swiftype Enterprise Search, specially designed for use in companies. The search service combines a number of AI-supported applications, such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), to continually optimize search results and analytics. In enterprise search, cloud services such as GitHub, Google Apps, Salesforce or Slack can be integrated beyond the company's own websites, while APIs can also be used to create individual connectors for comparable services.
Enterprise Search is currently still in beta mode, but is available as a trial version on request. The product is to be gradually expanded by Elastic's acquisition of Swiftype with additional features of the Elastic Stack and X-Pack. Customers should also be able to choose between the hosted service and an on-premise version, which is an alternative to the Google Search Appliance (GSA) Google has discontinued.
