ECB: Eurosystem buys less bonds News

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 | bitcoin updates

By Andreas Plecko FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – Eurozone central banks have halved their purchases of bonds in the week of 29 September. The total purchase volume amounted to EUR 7.157 billion (previous week: EUR 14.159 billion), as the European Central Bank (ECB) reported in its weekly report. Central banks adjust their purchases to the volume of sales in order to limit market distortions as far as possible. The holdings of public bonds increased by EUR 5.092 billion (EUR 11.940 billion) and the holdings of corporate bonds by EUR 1.704 billion (EUR 1.765 billion). In the case of covered bonds, stocks rose by 0.551 (0.784) billion euros. The portfolio of credit securitization / asset-backed securities (ABS) declined by 0.190 (minus 0.330) billion euros. The central banks of the Eurosystem shall purchase securities on a continuous basis by decision of the Governing Council. With this flood of funds, the ECB wants the banks to stimulate greater lending to the economy. This should stimulate the economy and drive inflation. Since April the monthly volume has been around 60 billion euros. Contact the author: konjunktur.de@dowjones.com DJW / apo / raz (END) Dow Jones Newswires October 03, 2017 10:02 ET (14:02 GMT)
