Before Jerusalem vote: Trump threatens UN member states – Politics

Thursday, December 21st, 2017 | bitcoin updates

US President Donald Trump has sharply warned other countries to vote against the US on Thursday in the UN General Assembly Jerusalem vote. Trump threatened Wednesday in the White House to cancel these countries, the financial benefits. The UN General Assembly voted on a resolution condemning Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, "They're taking hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars from us, and then they're voting against us," Trump said. The US government will take note of these votes. "Let them vote against us, we will save a lot," he added. 193 states are represented in the UN General Assembly. However, their resolutions have no binding effect and there is no right of veto. The resolution tabled by Turkey and Yemen is therefore likely to be passed. Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki denounced the "threats" of the US. In particular, at a press conference in Istanbul, he condemned a letter from the US Ambassador to the United Nations to several foreign ministers. Nikki Haley had "threatened and intimidated other countries in the letter." The Turkish foreign minister was critical of US action. In her letter, Haley wrote that Trump had asked her to report to all countries "who voted against us." "We will make a note of every vote on this issue," she threatened in the letter which the news agency AFP was able to see. Turkish foreign minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, who spoke to al-Malki before their joint departure for New York, criticized this approach , The US had decided to "go the way of threats", but this will not work, said Cavusoglu. "The world has changed, the logic 'I am stronger, I am right' has changed, today the world is rising against injustice." The US had vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Monday in the Trumps Jerusalem decision is condemned. All other 14 councilors voted for it. Trump's decision on Jerusalem is criticized worldwide. (AFP)
